Sports Massage
Sports massage is a specialised form of therapeutic, soft tissue massage that can be beneficial to all, not just sports people. I use deep tissue massage techniques along with targeted soft tissue and joint mobilisation practises. These methods release the connective tissues of the body (muscles, tendons, ligamentous structures). The benefits are multi-dimensional but include aiding muscle revival, recovery, relaxation, pain relief and injury prevention.

Injury Prevention
Sports Massage techniques generate an increased body temperature, as well as improving localised blood circulation.

Healthy muscle tissue has good blood circulation making it elastic and pliable.

Massage techniques stretch and strengthen muscle fibres which increase the range of motion of specific joints. This restores and improves flexibility, prepares the muscles for optimal performance and reduces the risk of injury.

Revive and Recover
Sports massage can form a key part of muscle recovery depending on the severity of the injury.

Working alongside physiotherapists and sports doctors, sports massage can deliver targeted techniques to support muscle rehabilitation.
Massage techniques maximise blood flow to aid the tissue healing process, encourage lymphatic drainage (getting rid of damaged tissue), mobilise muscle and scar tissue, increase muscle flexibility, balance nervous system response (reduce sensitivity), and reduce pain.

Relaxation and Pain Relief
Sports massage can identify tight muscles and joints, reduce muscular tension and restore muscle balance.

Treatment will promote relaxation by engaging the bodies parasympathetic nervous system.

Along with the increase in blood circulation through tight muscles, sports massage can temporarily reduce chronic pain conditions.
